Chris Evans To Return As Captain America In Future Marvel Project

In a shocking turn of events, it seems Chris Evans will soon return as Steve Rogers to the MCU. According to Deadline, Evans is nearing a deal to reprise his role as Captain America in a future Marvel project.
Sources informed Deadline that it is unclear if the deal is completely closed, but it seems to be heading in that direction. It would see Evans return as Captain America in at least one Marvel property with the possibility of a second film. Additionally, it seems unlikely that it is another installment in his Captain America franchise. Rather it is similar to how Robert Downey Jr. appeared in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Evans had made it clear in the past that he was hanging up his role as Steve Rogers for good, even going as far as to hand his shield off to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame. So for the star to decide to return must mean the MCU has something major in store for his character. Given he is now an old man in the current timeline, perhaps he will now serve as more of a mentor to other heroes rather than go on his own heroic endeavors.
Evans, who played Steve Rogers in a total of 9 Marvel films over the course of 9 years, is entering the prime of his career. Following a standout role in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, the actor will next appear as dentist Orin Scrivello in The Little Shop of Horrors remake. That film will see Evans reunite with his fellow Avenger Scarlett Johanson. Additionally, Evans will lead the cast in Scott Derrickson’s thriller, Bermuda.
