Jeremy Irons Joins Lady Gaga & Adam Driver In Ridley Scott’s ‘Gucci’

One of the most accomplished actors of all time has secured his next big-screen role. Following an Emmy Award-nominated turn in HBO’s Watchmen series, many wondered just what Jeremy Irons would do next. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Irons will join Lada Gaga and Adam Driver in Ridley Scott’s based-on-true-events feature Gucci.
Additionally, Oscar winners Jared Leto and Al Pacino are in negotiations to appear in the film as well. The litany of impressive A-list stars will also join Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and Reeve Carney (Gemini) in the ensemble cast as well. Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of fashion powerhouse Maurizio Gucci (Driver). Patrizia was convicted of orchestrating his assassination in 1995 and served 18 years in jail. Irons will portray Maurizio’s father, Rodolfo Gucci in the film. Previously, Robert De Niro was circling the role before ultimately passing, clearing the path for Irons to join.

The upcoming feature will depict the events leading up to and following the grisly assassination. The film features a script penned by Roberto Bentivegna (The Last Man in Brooklyn) and based on Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Ridley Scott will direct and produce the picture as well alongside his wife Giannina Scott and Kevin Walsh (Manchester by the Sea). Per the initial report production for the upcoming film will begin early next year. MG Studios will handle finances and distribution with a release date of November 24, 2021, currently on the books.
In addition to his jarring turn as the megalomaniac genius Adrian Veidt in Watchmen, Irons will next reprise his role as Alfred Pennyworth in Zack Snyder’s Justice League for HBO Max. Famously, Irons won the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his portrayal of the accused murderer Claus von Bülow in 1990’s Reversal of Fortune. Up next, the former Scar voice actor will appear opposite 1917 star George MacKay in Netflix’s Munich.
