After what was a universally beloved turn in Hulu’s Christmas comedy Happiest Season, Aubrey Plaza lines up her next big role. According to a new report from Deadline, the former Parks & Recreation star will join action icon Jason Statham in a new thriller from The Gentlemen director Guy Ritchie.
Originally, the film was titled Five Eyes. However, over the course of its development, the new title is currently still being workshopped. Plaza will star as the feature’s female lead alongside Statham. The plot follows an MI6 agent (Statham) after joining a new global intelligence alliance. The group’s goal is to track and stop the sale of new weapons technology before it falls into the wrong hands. Reluctantly, the MI6 agent teams with a CIA tech expert (Plaza), and the two set off on a mission that takes them all over the world. The duo will need to use their wits, charm, and no small amount of teamwork to infiltrate a billion-dollar arms operation.
Guy Ritchie will direct the feature with a screenplay by The Gentlemen writers Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. Ritchie will also produce the movie via his multi-picture deal with Miramax. Additionally, the aforementioned Atkinson is on board to produce as well with STXfilms handling worldwide distribution. Miramax CEO Bill Block (Fury) will serve as an executive producer for the project.
An action-thriller is a genre that Plaza is unfamiliar with. However, the actress continues to shine in any role she chooses to take on. Recently, Plaza turned heads as the villain in FX’s Marvel series Legion. In addition to her role in Happiest Season, Plaza also last appeared on the big screen in the 2019 Chucky reboot Child’s Play. Up next, the versatile performer will star in Lawrence Levine’s Black Bear and the animated comedy King Knight.
