‘Bloodshot 2’ In The Works At Sony Pictures With Vin Diesel Returning

While it seems like it was a lifetime ago, Bloodshot is one of the few 2020 films to release in theaters. Additionally, two weeks after the theatrical release, the film came out on VOD with physical copies hitting homes shortly after. Following what the studio considers a successful turnout, it appears the franchise still has some life left in it. During a conversation with CBR, DMG Entertainment, Valiant’s parent company, Creative Head Dan Mintz revealed that a sequel is in development with Vin Deisel returning.
“I think [Bloodshot] was very successful in that respect, a lot of people saw it and it did very well in the post-release rollout but you can’t use the same evaluation process, pre-COVID, to this,” Mintz said. “[Are] Vin Diesel and all those people going to still continue? Yes, because it did so well and the response to it has been so well, it’s just that the response has been in a non-transparent environment, as opposed to a transparent environment like box office numbers.”

Bloodshot earned $37 million at the box office and raked in an extra $15 million in home video sales. However, the feature received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. In his review for the film, Full Circle’s Lead Film Critic James Preston Poole calls the movie “an anemic rehash of better movies in science fiction and the revenge genre.”
Starring Vin Deisel, Eiza González, Lamorne Morris, and Toby Kebbell, Bloodshot follows a Marine who was killed in action. However, he is brought back to life with superpowers by an organization that wants to use him as a weapon. Additionally, it is directed by David S. F. Wilson in his feature directorial debut.
Despite movie and TV productions shutting down all over the world, Vin Diesel manages to keep himself busy. Recently, he made waves by releasing his own music with songs like “Feel Like I Do” and “Days Are Gone”. Moreover, Deisel will reprise his roles of Dominic Toretto and Groot in the upcoming blockbusters F9 and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.
