Ellen Page & Paris Berelc To Star In BuzzFeed Studios’ Esports Movie ‘1UP’

Fresh off a generally well-recieved turn in season two of Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, Ellen Page is already setting a unique slate of upcoming projects. As first reported by Variety, Page is set to star alongside Hubie Halloween star Paris Berelc for the first feature film from BuzzFeed Studios.
The film, titled 1UP, will reportedly follow an all-female esports team battling sexism at a college. After quitting her collegiate squad for differential treatment from her male counterparts, a gamer, played by Berelc, needs to find a way to retain her scholarship. She sets out to create her own esports team of all-female gamers and enlists the help of a disgraced coach, played by Page.

The script will feature a script penned by Julia Yorks. Best known for Tom Cruise‘s Jack Reacher, Yorks pitched the concept to the newly-formed BuzzFeed Studios. Additionally, Senior Vice President of Global Content at BuzzFeed Richard Alan Reid will produce the film. Michael Philip (Surrogates) and Jason Moring (Ripped) will also produce. BuzzFeed is looking to begin production next month in Toronto.
In addition to her role in Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, Page is best known for her roles in films like Juno and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Up next, the actress will star alongside Quvenzhané Wallis in Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin. Moreover, Paris Berelc was a comedic standout in Adam Sandler‘s latest film Hubie Halloween. The actress rose to prominence thanks to her roles as Skylar Storm in the Disney XD series Mighty Med and Lab Rats: Elite Force.
