Carey Mulligan Joins Bradley Cooper In Netflix’s Leonard Bernstein Biopic ‘Maestro’

Following a triumphant few years for the actor-filmmaker, Bradley Cooper finds his next big project by teaming up with Netflix. As first reported by Deadline, Cooper will star in Maestro, a biopic about the famous composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein. Additionally, Cooper will appear on-screen in the film alongside Pride & Prejudice star Carey Mulligan.
Cooper will star in the film as the aforementioned Leonard Bernstein with Mulligan starring as his wife Felicia Cohn Montealegre Bernstein. Moreover, Bradley Cooper will direct the film as well with a screenplay co-written by Oscar-winning Spotlight writer Josh Singer. Per the initial report, Cooper has developed the film alongside Bernstein’s children for several years. The film will follow Leonard and Felicia’s love-story that spans over 30-years. Beginning in 1946, Maestro will detail the complexities of their relationship as Leonard’s stock rises thanks to his immense musical abilities. The cast will also reportedly feature the Emmy Award-winning star of Succession Jeremy Strong.

Leonard Bernstein is the first American-born conductor to lead an American orchestra. Best known for his work on the Broadway musical West Side Story, the composer touts 11 Emmy Awards, 17 Grammy Awards, and the Kennedy Center Honor.
Bradley Cooper expressed his excitement to get to work on creating the story with his new co-star. “I was struck by Carey ever since I saw her on stage many years ago and I haven’t missed a performance of hers since,” said Cooper. “I am humbled to be working with such a mammoth talent, as well as such a kind person in Carey.”
The last few years have been filled with big box office numbers and a bevy of award victories for Cooper. The actor starred in, directed, and/or produced films like Avengers: Endgame, A Star Is Born, and Joker over the last 2 years alone. up next, Cooper will lead the ensemble cast in Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley and star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest untitled project. Meanwhile, Carey Mulligan last appeared on the big screen in Paul Dano‘s Wildlife. Up next, the Oscar-nominated actress will star in Promising Young Woman alongside Bo Burnham and Alison Brie.
