Julianne Moore Joins ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Movie As Heidi Hansen

Universal’s upcoming film adaptation of the musical Dear Evan Hansen continues to ramp up as it heads towards production. As first reported by Deadline, Oscar winner Julianne Moore has signed on to join the ensemble, joining Ben Platt, Amy Adams, Kaitlyn Dever, and Amandla Stenberg.
Per the initial report, Moore will reportedly portray Heidi Hansen in the film. Heidi is the mother of the protagonist Evan Hansen. She exudes positivity but ends up feeling abandoned throughout the events of the film. The character also performs songs like “Anybody Have a Map?” and “Good for You” and was originated by Tony Award winner Rachel Bay Jones in the original broadway cast.

Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of a young man with a social anxiety disorder. In order to make a connection with his peers, he fabricates a relationship with a deceased student to become closer to the boy’s family. When the classmate commits suicide, shy Evan Hansen finds himself at the center of the tragedy and turmoil. In an attempt to comfort the boy’s grieving family, Evan pretends that he was actually good friends with their son. He invents a fabricated email account to prove their friendship, and when a fake suicide note makes its way online, Evan finds himself the unintended face of a viral video about loneliness and friendship.
The musical was penned by The Greatest Showman lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul alongside Steven Levenson. The three creators will serve as executive producers with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel. Levenson will write the film’s script while Wonder director Stephen Chbosky will helm the project.
Moore is an extremely accomplished performer and has earned countless accolades thanks to roles in films like Boogie Nights, The Kids Are All Right, and the final two Hunger Games films. In 2019, she appeared in the After the Wedding remake and The Staggering Girl. Up next for the Crazy, Stupid, Love actress is A24’s Sharper and a starring role in the Gloria Steinem biopic The Glorias alongside Alicia Vikander, Bette Midler, and Janelle Monae.
