‘The Eternals’ Star Barry Keoghan Joins Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’

This weekend’s DC Fandome event turned out to be a roaring success for Warner Bros. The studio was able to build anticipation for a bevy of its upcoming DC projects with over 18 million tuning in to check out the first full trailer for The Batman. However, as the film awaits its return to production this September, director Matt Reeves continues to round out his cast. According to a press release from Warner Bros, The Eternals star Barry Keoghan will appear in the upcoming film focusing on the Dark Knight.
Keoghan is playing Officer Stanley Merkel in the film. Debuting within the pages of DC Comics in 1987’s Batman #405, Merkel was James Gordon’s partner when he first started in Gotham City. It is likely Merkel will appear as a young office on the Gotham City police force alongside Jeffery Wright’s Gordon.
Barry Keoghan is best known for his roles in films like A24’s Trespass Against Us and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. Up next, the Irish actor will star as Druig in Marvel’s The Eternals.

Before the production’s shutdown, set photos showcased The Penguin and, potentially, the Batcycle. The upcoming DC film will have Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne face off against members of the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery. Its cast includes Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. The film’s first trailer debuted to a bevy of positive feedback as fans are Matt Reeves teases a deep-dive into Batman’s “World’s Greatest Detective” moniker.
