Sony Taps ‘Triple Frontier’ Director J.C. Chandor To Helm ‘Kraven The Hunter’

Sony is continuing to grow its slate of Marvel centered films as they select some top talent to helm upcoming projects. As first reported by Deadline, the studio has recruited Triple Frontier helmer J. C. Chandor to direct the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Kraven The Hunter.

With forthcoming installments like Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius currently postponed, Sony is actively developing their own Marvel Universe with the Webslinger’s rogue gallery taking the forefront. In addition to the upcoming Kraven film, Sony is developing solo ventures for characters like Spider-Woman, Jackpot, and Madame Web.

Chandor is certainly an interesting choice to helm the upcoming film. The filmmaker is best known for writing and directing the films Margin Call, All Is Lost, A Most Violent Year, and Triple Frontier. The latter stars Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac and received mixed reviews from a bevy of fans and critics. Additionally, Chandor will also direct and produce the upcoming TV series The Connection.

Debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in August 1964, Kraven the Hunter is an adversary to Spider-Man. However, the character has also been depicted as an antihero and an ally of Squirrel Girl. Kraven is a renowned big-game hunter who aims to kill Spider-Man to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter, but maintains a code of honor and justice, treating his adversaries as equals. He is also one of the founding members of the supervillain team, the Sinister Six.

Longtime Spider-Man collaborators Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are on-board to produce the feature. Moreover, while no casting information is available at this time, Magic Mike Joe Manganiello has expressed interest in playing the role.
