Debuting within the pages of Marve Comics in Marvel Spotlight #32 in 1977, Spider-Woman has been the alias of a bevy of Marvel characters. However, perhaps best known is Jessica Drew. Created by Archie Goodman and Marie Severin, Drew is a master spy. She was intended to be an actual spider who evolved into a human. However, her origin was retconned several times. Currently, she stands as one of the most influential female characters in the Marvel canon. Her abilities include Superhuman strength, speed, durability, reflexes, and senses. Additionally, her unique costume allows her to glide through the skyscrapers of New York City.
Word first spread that development on a Spider-Woman film had begun in February, and since then, the project has been mostly up in the air. Later reports claimed that Kevin Feige was interested in working on a deal for Marvel Studios and Sony to share the character similar to their Spider-Man agreement. However, as of now, it remains to be seen if this deal has come to pass.
The film will be written by Wilde and her writing partner Katie Silberman with Amy Pascal producing. Additionally, Rachel O’Connor will executive produce.
