Logan Lerman & Asa Butterfield To Portray Young Political Operatives In ‘College Republicans’

Best known for his producing and writing credits in films like Brokeback Mountain and Hulk, filmmaker James Schamus continues to carve out a peculiar legacy. As first reported by Deadline, Schamus will next inhabit the director’s chair for a fact-inspired, coming-of-age story about the youth years of top Republican operatives.
Percy Jackson‘s Logan Lerman will star in the film as Lee Atwater. Atwater was an adviser to both Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush and chairman of the Republican National Committee. Additionally, The Space Between Us Asa Butterfield will co-star in the film as Karl Rove. Rove is a policy advisor and lobbyist who served as Deputy Chief of Staff during the George W. Bush administration. The film takes place during the summer of 1973 as the two travel up and down the South participating in backhanded tactics to steal an election. Their vote-stealing road trip leads to them meeting, and betraying, the likes of Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and Jeff Sessions.

The Assistant star Kristine Forseth joins the cast as a composite character named Kate King. The script is penned by Billions writer Wes Jones with Anthony Bregman (Foxcatcher) and Black List founder Franklin Leonard on board to produce.
Since his head-turning role in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Asa Butterfield’s filmography continues to grow. Most recently, the British actor has starred on the big-screen in Greed and on the Netflix series Sex Education. Meanwhile, Logan Lerman currently stars in Amazon’s Hunters. Additionally, the actor appeared alongside Elizabeth Moss in this year’s Shirley.
