Disney Developing Movie Musical ‘All Night Long’ Featuring Lionel Richie’s Greatest Hits

Lionel Richie is one of the most recognizable voices in music. His hits include songs that have stood the test of time like “Brick House” and “Say You, Say Me.” The performers’ legacy will next be extended via a collaboration with Walt Disney Pictures. As first reported by Variety, Disney is currently developing a new original movie musical titled All Night Long that will feature a bevy of songs from Lionel Richie’s greatest hits.
Movie fans can expect the film to have a similar musical tone as hit films like Mamma Mia!, which featured music by Abba. The film’s narrative is built around the songs chosen to be performed throughout its narrative. Richie reportedly developed the pitch and sold the rights to Disney earlier this year. The two entities have pervious history due to Richie’s involvement with ABC’s reboot of American Idol.

Richie will serve as the film’s executive producer alongside his longtime manager Bruce Eskowitz. Additionally, the project will be produced by Dana Brunetti (The Social Network) and Matt Del Piano. Furthermore, Crazy Rich Asians scribe Pete Chiarelli will tackle the script. The initial report also notes that the film is expected to release theatrically. However, that can always change.
All Night Long will deepen Disney’s slate of upcoming musicals. Over the last few months, new projects featuring the talents of Channing Tatum and Bruno Mars have been announced. With the Disney+ streaming service currently riding a wave of success, the new original content will remain in high demand.
