Eli Roth’s upcoming Borderlands film has found its star. According to Variety, Cate Blanchett is in talks to star as Lilith.
In June, Full Circle Cinema exclusively reported that the studio was looking to feature a female protagonist in Lilith. Now, based on this report that has been confirmed. In the Borderlands franchise, Lilith is one of the main protagonists and one of the playable characters in the first game. She is one of only six women in the galaxy that belong to the powerful “siren” class, wielding incredible superhuman powers.
Borderlands is a role-playing first-person shooter that first launched in 2009. The game is set in the frontier of the planet Pandora, which was abandoned by a mega-corporation prior to the events of the game.
As of now, the deal with Blanchett has not been finalized, but if the actress does sign, it would be a significant get for the highly anticipated film.
Currently, Randy Pitchford, the executive producer of the Borderlands video game and founder of Gearbox Software and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two interactive, are signed on to executive produce. Roth will direct with Avi and Ari Arad producing through Arad Productions. Craig Mazin has written the latest draft of the screenplay.
