Director Riley Stearns wowed audiences in 2019 with his black comedy The Art of Self-Defense. The film Jesse Eisenberg-starring film holds an approval rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and Full Circle Film Critic James Preston Poole called it “a swift kick to the groin of toxic masculinity”. Up next, the filmmaker will tackle the sci-fi genre with Dual, a thriller the director wrote himself.
Dual will star Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan as a terminally ill woman. When faced with the fear of leaving her loved ones behind, she decides to clone herself before succumbing to her illness. However, after making a miraculous recovery, Gillan’s character fails to have her clone decommissioned leading to a duel to the death for one of them.
The film will also star Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul and the aforementioned Jesse Eisenberg in undisclosed roles. Additionally, Beulah Koale (Hawaii Five-0) and Martha Kelly (Marriage Story) will appear in the film as well.
Gillan had herself an extremely successful 2019. Her roles in Avengers: Endgame and Jumanji: The Next Level contributed to both films having profitable runs at the box office. The actress will next star in Gunpowder Milkshake alongside Angela Bassett. Moreover, Aaron Paul recently reprised his role as Jesse Pinkman in Netflix’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie while Jesse Eisenberg starred in Zombieland: Double Tap.
