Karen Obilom Joins ‘Doom Patrol’ Season 2 As Roni Evers

The second season of Doom Patrol is already shaping up to continue the first season’s trend of can’t miss television. However, the team so beloved by fans will come face-to-face with a few new faces. It was recently revealed that young actress Abigail Shapiro will play Dorothy Spinner in the series. Additionally, as first reported by Deadline, Karen Obilom is set for a recurring role in the series as well.
Obilom will reportedly play a character named Roni Evers. Character description refers to Evers as a military veteran, with a mysterious past, that Vic Stone meets while attending a PTSD support group.
Eagle-eyed DC fans will recognize that name instantly. Debuting in the pages of DC Comics in 1982, Ronald Evers is life long friend of Victor Stone. However as the two grow, so does animosity between them. Evers’ life of crime conflicted with Stone’s morals. However, Evers discovered that the infamous S.T.A.R. Labs is conducting some shady operations and decides to bomb the facility. The attack goes sideways and Evers winds up being cybernetically enhanced, exactly like Cyborg. However, unlike Vic, Evers was the property of S.T.A.R. Labs and becomes an instrument for the U.S. military apparatus.

Casting Obilom as a female version of Evers is an excellent way to diversify the series and create new badass female characters for young comic book fans to look up to. Previously, the actress starred in BET’s Games People Play, HBO’s Insecure, and Netflix’s Medal of Honor.
Recently, it was revealed that season two of Doom Patrol will stream on both DC Universe and Warner Bros’ HBO Max platform. The first season was a critical and commercial success, even coming in at number 5 on Full Circle’s Top 10 TV Shows Of 2019.
