‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Is Reportedly The Most Popular Series In Disney+ Test Markets

Just a few days remain until the Disney+ streaming service officially launches. However, Disney has done a series of soft launches in Europe in test markets to see just what fans will stream. With a bevy of options to choose from, fans seem to be the most excited about all of the Marvel and Star Wars content.
A Disney spokesperson explained the soft-launches in a statement in September. “Testing is a critical component of a successful product launch,” she said. “So ahead of its global launch on November 12th, Disney+ launched in beta in the Netherlands to ready the technology for consumer usage at scale.”
According to a report from Variety, Avengers: Infinity War is the most popular streaming movie in these markets. Surprisingly, the most-streamed series so far is Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Rounding out the top three is the animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first premiered in 2013. It was the first live-action series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the last 6 seasons, the show starred Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennett, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, and Natalia Cordova-Buckley. It followed Agent Phil Coulson, who was mysteriously revived following his death in 2012’s The Avengers, as he leads a ragtag group of agents. The team faced off with various unusual cases and enemies, including HYDRA, Inhumans, Life Model Decoys, and the Kree.
However, despite reviews and ratings improving with every passing season, ABC made the decision to end the series next summer after its 7th season. Marvel Television has been in a state of flux since Marvel Studios has begun the initiative to move all MCU series over to Disney+. Cloak & Dagger has been axed by Freeform and the litany of Marvel shows on Netflix has ended. Perhaps, given the early success of Agents of S.H.I.EL.D. on the streaming platform, the series could be revived on Disney+.
Disney+ has a plethora of Marvel projects in the works. Additionally, it will tout a large library of Marvel films. In the future, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will thrive on the big screen as well as Disney+.
