David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan Cast As Superman & Lois In James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’

When news broke that Warner Bros had established DC Studios with James Gunn and Peter Safran, the two creatives followed it up by revealing a total overhaul of the current DC film slate. Now, after weeks and weeks of rumors, Deadline confirms that Gunn has selected David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan as his Superman and Lois Lane in the upcoming DCU film Superman: Legacy.
The news follows a THR report that Corenswet and Brosnahan had tested for the roles over the weekend along with Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, Phoebe Dynevor, and Emma Mackey. Per the initial report, both Corenswet and Brosnahan tested for the roles in full costume and makeup and were selected by Gunn and Safran directly.

James Gunn will write and direct the feature. Superman: Legacy will kick off the rebooted DCU for Warner Bros and share little to no connections with the preceding DCEU. DC Studios hopes to have Superman: Legacy filming in early 2024, in time for a July 11, 2025, release. However, it is possible the film is delayed given the current WGA strike and potential SAG-AFTRA strike, which could go into effect on June 30th.
David Corenswet has starred in a bevy of hit TV shows like House of Cards and Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series The Politician and Hollywood. The actor also touts a memorable role in the A24 movie Pearl. Up next, Corenswet will star alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos in the highly anticipated Twister sequel Twisters. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan is an Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor thanks to her iconic titular role in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Up next, the multitalented performer joins Rami Malek in an upcoming spy thriller titled The Amateur.
