Jon Bernthal To Return As The Punisher In ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Marvel fans who have kept up with the onslaught of live-action projects set in the MCU have gone through seasons of joy and pain with the arrival and subsequent departure of hit shows on Netflix and ABC over the years. However, with the launch of Disney+, the MCU is looking to correct the course. Marvel Studios will continue the story that began in Netflix’s hit Daredevil series in a new project titled Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Now, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Bernthal is confirmed to reprise his role of Frank Castle AKA The Punisher in the highly anticipated series.
Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series, which will begin shooting in New York this month. The three actors are no strangers to each other after sharing a bevy of scenes together throughout the three-season run of Daredevil on Netflix. Matt Corman and Chris Ord (Deck the Halls) will write the series with the anticipated premiere date taking place sometime in spring 2024.

Created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru, The Punisher made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in February 1974. Driven by the deaths of his wife and two children, the vigilante employs, murder, kidnapping, extortion, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his campaign against crime. Jon Bernthal debuted as the character in the second season of Daredevil before starring in two seasons of his own spin-off.
Bernthal’s return as The Punisher has long been speculated with the actor himself displaying a desire to make it happen in a host of interviews. Since his time in the MCU come to an abrupt pause, Bernthal has racked up memorable roles in hit films like The Peanut Butter Falcon, King Richard, and Ford v. Ferrari. Up next, the actor will star alongside Aunjanue Ellis and Niecy Nash-Betts in Ava DuVernay’s Caste.
