Captain America 4 Gives Thunderbolt Ross a Shocking New Role

Captain America: New World Order is shaping into an exciting film in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Producer Nate Moore has already confirmed production on the film starting in the early spring of 2023. Moreover, we’ve also learned from insider Daniel Richtman that Thunderbolt Ross will have an interesting new role to play in the MCU. William Hurt initially portrayed Ross, first appearing in The Incredible Hulk and going on to be an opposing force to the Avengers, establishing the Sokvia Accords and antagonizing every Avenger possible.
After the unfortunate passing of Hurt, trade outlets later announced that the role would be recast. To everyone’s surprise, Harrison Ford was announced as the new Thunderbolt Ross. Shockingly enough, according to Richtman, Ross will serve as President of the United States in Captain America 4. The report also says that Ross will have the powers of the Red Hulk, a popular storyline from the Incredible Hulk comics.

Along with Tim Blake Nelson returning as The Leader for the film, New World Order looks gamma-centric. The last known MCU President was Matthew Ellis (William Sadler), who featured heavily in Iron Man 3. The character would, later on, appear in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and be mentioned in the Marvel Netflix series. Before this development, the American Government was already shaping to be a significant player in the MCU. Shows like Falcon & The Winter Soldier and movies like the upcoming Thunderbolts all point to Ross in the role of President as a big deal, especially given that Ross is antagonistic towards the Avengers.
Between Ross never catching the Hulk and the Sokovia Accords being repealed, no one’s failed upward like him. How his struggle against super-powered individuals changes now that he’s potentially President in the MCU will certainly be interesting.
