‘Secret Invasion’: New Details About Olivia Coleman’s Role Surface

It has previously been reported that Olivia Coleman is set to play a version of Union Jack in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Secret Invasion series. Now, insider Daniel Richtman has offered up additional details about her character.

According to Richtman, Coleman will be playing the head of MI13, and her character’s name is Sonya Falsworth. Created by Warren Ellis, Chris Claremont, and Michael Ryan in 1996, MI13 debuted in Excalibur #101. It is a British intelligence agency that deals primarily with paranormal occurrences, extra-terrestrial, and other strange happenings in the United Kingdom.

As for Coleman’s character’s name Sonya Falsworth, this could suggest she may still have some relation to the Union Jack character. Many characters have used the name in the comics, including Lord James Falsworth. In fact, a version of that character appeared as Howling Commando in Captain America: The First Avenger, played by JJ Feild. So given the prior report and Richtman’s new information, it is still possible Coleman will be a new version of Union Jack, or she may be a relation of Falsworth, who now heads up MI13.

Secret Invasion hails from Mr. Robot creator Kyle Bradstreet with Thomas Bezucha (Monte Carlo) and Ali Selim (Manhunt) attached to direct. The story follows a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the comic saw The Avengers teaming with The Fantastic Four and the X-Men, among others, to confront and end the threat of the Skrulls. The series stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Colman, Don Cheadle, and Emilia Clarke. Additionally, Cobie Smulders and Martin Freeman are expected to reprise their MCU roles in the six-episode series as well.
