Fresh off his first-ever Emmy nomination for his work in FX’s Under the Banner of Heaven, Andrew Garfield has already selected his next big project. As first reported by Deadline, Garfield has been tapped to portray British billionaire Richard Branson in a new limited series titled Hot Air.
The series will see Garfield team with John Wick director David Leitch, who will direct the six-episode series. Garfield will also serve as an executive producer for the project alongside Jon Croker (Paddington 2), who penned the series as well. Universal International Studios is handling financing and distribution with production expected to begin later this year.
Based on Martyn Gregory’s 1996 book Dirty Tricks, Hot Air will tell the outlandish story of Richard Branson and the unbelievable rise of Virgin Airways. In the 1970s, Branson founded the Virgin Group, which today controls more than 400 companies in various fields. The series will also explore the battle between Branson’s Virgin Atlantic and British Airways throughout the 1990s.

Additionally, Garfield also made his long-awaited MCU debut by reprising the role of Spider-Man alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor is certainly in high demand following a memorable 2021 which also included a stunning performance alongside Oscar winner Jessica Chastain in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
