Lady Gaga In Early Talks To Play Harley Quinn In ‘Joker’ Musical Sequel

In, perhaps, one of the most intriguing news stories in recent memory, the development of the upcoming sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film Joker just got very interesting. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it appears Oscar nominee Lady Gaga is in early negotiations to join the cast of the Joker sequel as the titular character’s muser, Harley Quinn.
The highly anticipated project, apparently titled Joker: Folie à deux, hails from writer and director Todd Phillips. Additionally, per the initial report, the sequel is actively being developed as a musical, which will suit the Grammy Award-winning Lady Gaga. At this time, no deals have been signed for the film. However, it is safe to assume Joaquin Pheonix will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck in the film.

Created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, Harley Quinn first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. Since then, the character has become a pop culture icon. Quinn touts her own animated series on HBO Max, voiced by Kaley Cuoco, which will premiere its third season later this year. Additionally, Margot Robbie has portrayed the anti-hero on the big screen in The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. Gaga would be just the third actress to portray Quinn after Robbie and Mia Sara, who portrayed the character in the 2002 television series Birds of Prey.
As she continues to sell millions of albums around the world, Lady Gaga is also building an impressive acting résumé. Following roles in American Horror Story: Hotel and A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga has been nominated for and won Academy and Golden Globe Awards. Most recently, the multihyphenate starred alongside Adam Driver in House of Gucci.
