Kerry Washington & Delroy Lindo To Star In Hulu Comedy Series ‘Unprisoned’

Following a year filled with hits like Only Murders In The Building and Pam & Tommy, Hulu continues to churn out quality original content. Up next, the streamer is enlisting the services of two of the most acclaimed actors of their generations for a new series. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo will star in a new comedy titled Unprisoned for Hulu.
The project hails from creator Tracy McMillan (Mad Men) and is inspired by her real life. Onyx Collective, a Disney production banner focused on content for underrepresented communities, will bankroll the series with Hulu handling distribution. McMillan will serve as an executive producer on the series alongside both Lindo and Washington. The half-hour comedy will run for an eight-episode first season.

Per the initial report, Unprisioned will follow a therapist and single mom (Washington) who suddenly has her life turned upside down following the prison release of her father (Lindo). In a statement, McMillan talks about why she wanted to bring this story to life.
“This isn’t just my story,” McMillan said. “It’s the story of millions of people dealing with the effects of mass incarceration on their families, hearts, minds and bodies — and as writers, we wanted to come to these flawed but super-lovable characters from the place of empathy, humor and soul that they deserve.”
Kerry Washington is an Emmy Award-winning actress best known for her roles in shows like Scandal and films like Ray. Most recently, the multitalented performer turned heads in Netflix’s The Prom and Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere. Up next Washington will star alongside Sofia Wylie in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil. Additionally, Delroy Lindo is one of the most celebrated thespians of all time, earning a Tony and three SAG awards. The actor most recently starred in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and Jeymes Samuel’s The Harder They Fall. Up next, Lindo joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe opposite Mahershala Ali in Blade.
