Marvel Studios has begun to assemble its cast for Mahershala Ali’s Blade. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Delroy Lindo is in final negotiations to join the project.
Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Blade’s first appearance was in The Tomb of Dracula #10 in July 1973. A human-vampire hybrid, Blade, real name Eric Brooks, has devoted his life to ridding the world of all vampires. Utilizing his unique physiology to become the perfect vampire hunter as the Daywalker. Moreover, the antihero was portrayed by Wesley Snipes in a trilogy of live-action films from New Line Cinema. Additionally, the character has appeared alongside The Avengers in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., voiced by J.D. Hall and Terry Crews, respectively.
It is unclear what Lindo’s role in the film may be. He is the first star to board the project since Ali, so it seems hopeful more casting announcements could come soon.
First announced in July 2019, Blade will reboot the character in the MCU, with Ali set to play the titular vampire slayer. And while he has yet to make a full appearance yet, the character did have a minor cameo in the post-credits scene of Eternals.
Lindo is best known for his roles in films such as Get Shorty and Gone in 60 Seconds. Recently he starred in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods with the late Chadwick Boseman.
