Matt Bomer In Talks To Join Bradley Cooper & Carey Mulligan In Leonard Bernstein Biopic ‘Maestro’

News regarding the upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic has been few and far between since September of 2020 when Carey Mulligan joined the cast. Now, it appears the feature is beginning to pick up steam once again. As first reported by Deadline, Doom Patrol star Matt Bomer is in negotiations to join the upcoming film.
Bradley Cooper will star in the film as the aforementioned Leonard Bernstein with Mulligan starring as his wife, Felicia Cohn Montealegre Bernstein. Moreover, Bradley Cooper will direct the film as well with a screenplay co-written by Oscar-winning Spotlight writer Josh Singer. Notably, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Todd Phillips are all on board as executive producers for the project as well.

Per the initial report, Cooper is developing the film alongside Bernstein’s children. The film will follow Leonard and Felicia’s love story that spans over 30-years. Beginning in 1946, Maestro will detail the complexities of their relationship as Leonard’s stock rises thanks to his immense musical abilities. The cast will also reportedly feature the Emmy Award-winning star of Succession Jeremy Strong. Leonard Bernstein is the first American-born conductor to lead an American orchestra. Best known for his work on the Broadway musical West Side Story, the composer touts 11 Emmy Awards, 17 Grammy Awards, and the Kennedy Center Honor.
Matt Bomer is best known for his roles in the hit TV shows White Collar and Chuck. Since then, the multitalented performer touts memorable roles in films like Magic Mike and The Nice Guys. UP next, Bomer will reprise his role as Negative Man in the fourth season of Doom Patrol. Additionally, Bomer will star alongside Michelle Monaghan in Netflix’s Echoes.
