All-Star Voice Cast Joins ‘Shrek’ Spinoff, ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’

More than a decade after the original film hit theaters, Dreamworks’ long-gestating sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, is finally gaining momentum ahead of its trailer debut on March 15.
According to a report from Deadline, the upcoming entry in the beloved animated franchise of fairy tale spoofs will feature a vast cast of returning voice actors and newcomers. Those in the latter category, however, aren’t as green around the gills as one might assume.

Stepping back into the booth to voice his Zorro-inspired feline, Puss in Boots, is Antonio Banderas, the originating voice of the character since 2004. Banderas will once more be joined by Salma Hayek Pinault, reprising her role of Kitty Softpaws from the 2011 spin-off. Among the star-studded voice cast making their franchise debut is Harvey Guillén (What we Do in the Shadows), in addition to Florence Pugh (Midsommar), John Mulaney (Saturday Night Live), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), and many more. Seriously.
While it isn’t known who is playing who among most of the newcomers, Guillén is reportedly voicing Perro, a scruffy puppy sidekick who joins Puss and Softpaws on their latest adventure.
Some may question what kind of box office draw the cat still has after 11 years in the dark. Of course, with a cast this stacked and help from the creative team (Joel Crawford, Januel Mercado, Mark Swift) behind the $215 million hit, The Croods: A New Age, you really can’t blame Dreamworks for liking their odds.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish duels its way into theaters September 23, 2022.
