Richard Ayoade & Rupert Friend Added To Wes Anderson’s ‘Henry Sugar’ Adaptation

When it comes to Wes Anderson and his star-studded casts, bigger is always better. According to a Deadline exclusive, Rupert Friend and Richard Ayoade are now the latest leading lads to join the eccentric director’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
Previous casting announcements for the Netflix original film have seen the likes of Sir Ben Kingsley, Dev Patel, and Ralph Fiennes filling out the supporting cast. Benedict Cumberbatch was also announced to lead the film, presumably in the role of Henry Sugar. If you aren’t noticing a very British and handsome pattern here then try to keep up moving forward.
While waves of casting choices for the film continue to crash, details surrounding Anderson’s creative visions are still mum. The movie is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1977 anthological novel of the same name. With The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Netflix intends to spawn an entire universe of the author’s work in various animated and live-action projects, in a similar fashion that the company is currently attempting with comic book author Mark Millar.

For Rupert Friend, he’s somewhat of a late bloomer when it comes to starring in irreverent comedies. Period dramas will define the forefront of Friend’s career. However, it’s safe to safe he’s found a new niche thanks to his work in The Death of Stalin and A Simple Favor. Additionally, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar marks the second collaboration between Anderson and Friend, as the actor will also appear in the director’s upcoming Asteroid City.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is currently in pre-production. The feature does not have an official release date at this time.
