Leslie Odom Jr. To Star In New ‘Exorcist’ Trilogy Directed By David Gordon Green

Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. is a star on the rise. Following Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for his role in One Night in Miami, the multi-talented performer continues to add to his stellar résumé. As first reported by The New York Times, Leslie Odom Jr. is on board to lead the cast for a brand new Exorcist trilogy in the works at Universal Pictures.
The new series of films will hail from critically-acclaimed filmmaker David Gordon Green. Additionally, original Exorcist star Ellen Burstyn will return to the fold to reprise her character from the series as well. Details on the landmark deal are under wraps at this time. However, the initial report notes Donna Langley, Universal’s chairwoman, teamed with the Peacock streaming service to make it happen. The first film will release in 2023 in theaters. However, it appears the second & third films could debut on Peacock.

Leslie Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child in the upcoming franchise reboot. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ellen Burstyn’s character from the original film, Chris MacNeil, for assistance. However, things go awry as Satan himself is not pleased to see MacNeil again. The Exorcist films have grossed over $661 million at the worldwide box office and consist of a total of five films.
Originating the role of Aaron Burr in Hamilton, the actor earned the Tony Award for Best Actor in 2016. Within the last year, he starred in Apple TV’s animated musical series Central Park and Sia’s Music. Recently, he earned an Oscar nomination for his role in Regina King’s One Night In Miami. Up next, he will star in the Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark as well as Rian Johnson’s highly anticipated Knives Out sequel.
