Harry Lennix Confirms He Will Play Martian Manhunter In ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’

Following years of speculation, sometimes fueled by Zack Snyder himself, DC fans imagined Man of Steel star Harry Lennix as the DCEU’s version of the legendary DC hero Martian Manhunter. In fact, during a recent video chat with fans, Snyder revealed the concept art for the character. Now, during a conversation with Collider, Lennix reveals that he will portray comic book favorite J’onn J’onzz and has filmed footage for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Created by writer Joseph Samachson and designed by artist Joe Certa, the character first appeared in the story “The Manhunter from Mars” in Detective Comics #225 in November 1955. One of the seven original members of the Justice League of America and, he is one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe. The Martian Manhunter holds various abilities like superhuman strength, speed, shapeshifting, flight, and intangibility. Moreover, he is also part of the core cast of the television series Supergirl and is portrayed by David Harewood.

Lennix will join Jared Leto and Joe Manganiello, who will also reprise their roles as Joker and Deathstroke, respectively, in extra scenes filmed. Following a family tragedy, Snyder had to step down in the midst of post-production on the film. Joss Whedon, writer/director of The Avengers, was then brought on board to oversee additional photography. Many fans felt that Whedon’s quippy sensibilities didn’t mesh with Snyder’s darker version of the super team. The film received negative reviews from fans and critics and launched a worldwide movement to release Snyder’s full vision.

Audiences have clamored for the “Snyder Cut” ever since the theatrical release. The movement came to in 2019 when stars Affleck and Gadot tweeted out the hashtag. Since then, support for the cut has only picked up steam, and now the wishes of his fans have finally been answered. The highly anticipated director’s cut will premiere on HBO Max in March and run as four, one-hour long parts. A full 4K Ultra HD blu ray release of the film is expected for late 2021 as well.
