One-third of the multi-platinum selling trio the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas is a highly successful pop singer. While the performer remains focused on music with his brothers and boasts an impressive solo run as well, Jonas is no stranger to the world of Broadway. As first reported by Deadline, Nick Jonas is in talks to lead the cast for a musical event performance of Jersey Boys, designed to run on a streaming platform a la Hamilton on Disney+.
The musical event will hail from a creative team comprising Bohemian Rhapsody’s Graham King, Frankie Valli, and Bob Gaudio. Nick Jonas is expected to embody the musical’s lead role as the aforementioned Valli. Presented in a documentary-style format, Jersey Boys is a dramatized telling of the formation, success, and break-up of the 1960s rock ‘n’ roll group The Four Seasons.
Along with a starring role in the stage production, Jonas will also record covers of the musical’s soundtrack. The songs will include classics like “Sherry” and “Stay”. In 2006, Jersey Boys won the Tony Awards for Best Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Album. Additionally, the musical was adapted into a 2014 film directed by Clint Eastwood that grossed $67 million worldwide.
In addition to a wildly successful career as a singer/songwriter, Nick Jones shines in acting roles as well. While most moviegoers will point to roles in the Jumanji franchise and Midway, Jonas touts appearances on Broadway and television as well. Notably, Jonas has appeared on stage in various companies of Tony Award winners like Hairspray, Les Misérables, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Additionally, the multitalented performer earned critical and commercial acclaim thanks to his role alongside Frank Grillo in the MMA drama series Kingdom. Up next, Jonas will star in Chaos Walking along with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.
