Donnie Yen, Alec Baldwin, & Frank Grillo Set For Action-Thriller ‘The Father’

Fresh off a show-stealing performance in Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan, Donnie Yen will continue to carve out his legacy on the big screen with his latest venture. According to The Wrap, Yen will team up with Frank Grillo and Alec Baldwin for a new action-thriller from AGC International titled The Father.
The film features a script penned by Cut Throat City scribe P.G. Cuschieri. Moreover, filmmaker Tommy Wirkola will inhabit the director’s chair once principal photography begins in early 2021. Best known for his work on films like Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Wirkola’s last feature, What Happened to Monday starring Willem Dafoe, released on Netflix in 2017.
The Father will reportedly take place in the Irish-American run gangland of South Boston and pay homage to the great action flicks of the 1980s. Yen will lead the ensemble as a middle-class Hong Kong immigrant named John Chung. As he does his best to create a new life in America for his family, Chung works as a fish broker in the city’s crime-filled docks. However, when his mischievous teenage sons accidentally discover an abundance of heroin, the family becomes the focus of a hunt by both the city’s crime syndicate and a gathering of corrupt police officers.

His charisma mixed with a vast knowledge of Tai Chi, Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, and Karate have made him a hot commodity following roles in Rogue One and Ip Man. Up next, the star will lead a live-action adaptation of the video game Sleeping Dogs. Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin often appears as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. His recent film, Drunk Parents, is currently streaming on Netflix. He will next repries his role in the upcoming animated film Boss Baby 2. Frank Grillo last appeared as Agent Rumlow AKA Crossbones in Avengers: Endgame. Up next, the actor will appear alongside Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
