Michael Mailer is directing the upcoming thriller Cutman, a dramatic thriller written by Tiffany Heath. Variety has the latest casting announcement, with Maggie Q and Frank Grillo taking on lead roles.
Currently there isn’t much known about Cutman. However, the definition of a cutman is a person in charge of treating a fighter between rounds for any physical damage. This fits the character description provided for Grillo’s character. The description is: “an over-the-hill boxer who begins working as the muscle for a local gangster. However, when Grillo’s character meets a young girl, his life takes a turn that’s unexpected.”
The production of Cutman will be a partnership between Michael Mailer Films, Bluegrass Pictures, Digital Ignition Entertainment, and Tremendous Entertainment. The individual producers encompass Mailer, Joel Shapiro, Scott Kluge, and Alessandro Penazzi. Executive producers will be Michael Clone, Jeff Elliot and Angela Ceccio. Additionally, Jason Sutter’s sales division at Brickell and Broadbridge will represent the international sales for the movie.
Grillo’s recent films include Netflix’s Point Blank with Anthony Mackie and Black and Blue with Naomie Harris. He recently wrapped up his production efforts on The Hitman’s Bodyguard, a Lionsgate sequel. Moreover, Maggie Q has starred in the TV series Nikita, and the movie series Divergent. Her upcoming films include the mystery Death of Me with Luke Hemsworth, The Argument, and Fantasy Island with Lucy Hale and Michael Pena.
