Director Mark Campbell is best known for his work within the James Bond and Zorro franchises. As first reported by Deadline, the filmmaker has tapped a bevy of A-list movie stars for his next project The Asset.
Maggie Q (Divergent) will join legendary actors Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson in the upcoming action-thriller. Keaton and Jackson have previously appeared together in the 1997 film Jackie Brown. Additionally, they both have roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Asset, written by Richard Wenk (Kraven the Hunter) story will follow Keaton’s Rembrandt and Q’s Anna. They are two of the world’s top assassins and just happen to share a mysterious past from Vietnam. For decades, the two compete for high-profile contracts. However, when Anna’s mentor Moody played by Jackson is murdered, she and Rembrandt form an alliance to find the man, or woman, responsible. The journey takes them back to Vietnam, where it all began.
Moreover, Executive Producer Jeffrey Greenstein spoke on his excitement for the film in a quote to Deadline.
“The Asset is the whole package, and we are excited to bring Richard Wenk’s masterful, muscular script to life with the all-star talent of Michael, Samuel, and Maggie. Having a great director like Martin Campbell at the helm will make all the difference. They will turn this into a big, stylish, and action-packed thrill ride.”
The film, which will also be produced by Arthur Sarkissian (Rush Hour) and Moshe Diamant (Timecop) will begin production in January 2020. Filming will reportedly take place on-location in England, Vietnam, and Bucharest.
