The creative team behind a cult classic comedy series is having a bit of a reunion. According to Deadline, Channing Tatum will next team with his 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a new monster film in development at Universal Pictures.
The currently untitled monster movie will be written by Midway executive producer Wes Tooke. Per the initial report, the film will be a modern-day, tongue-in-cheek adventure inspired by Universal’s longstanding monster legacy. Tatum will star in the film as well as produce alongside Lord and Miller. The filmmaking duo will helm the project with Reid Carolin (Magic Mike) and Peter Kiernan (Comrade Detective) on board as producers. Universal will produce and distribute the feature in collaboration with Free Association Productions.
Channing Tatum is one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. However, the last few years were significantly quiet for the actor. The last time fans saw him on the big screen was 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle. In addition to this feature, Tatum will next star in Netflix’s Six Years. Moreover, Tatum will star in Bob the Musical for Disney and makes his directorial debut with the upcoming comedy film Dog.
Meanwhile, Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently took home the Oscar for Best Animated film for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The duo also produced the upcoming Sony Pictures Animation film Connected. Their Netflix animated series Hoops continuously receive critical acclaim and they will next team with Apple TV for The Afterparty starring Dave Franco.
