Idris Elba To Star In Apple TV’s Untitled Africa-Set Spy/Romance Thriller

Idris Elba has one of the most recognizable names in Hollywood today. The Golden Globe Award-winning actor continues to grow and diversify his filmography with a bevy of exciting projects. As first reported by Deadline, the often-fancast-as-James Bond Elba will next star in his own untitled spy/romance thriller set in the continent of Africa.
Apple TV acquired the rights to the film in a hotly contested bidding war. The script hails from Emmy Award-winning actor and screenwriter Travon Free. Moreover, Idris Elba will produce the film as well alongside X-Men: Dark Pheonix directed Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon (Friday Night Lights). The studio is currently in search of a director to helm the project.

Since its inception, Apple TV+ continues to impress the masses with its offerings. From exclusive big-budget films The Banker and Greyhound to exhilarating shows like See and Defending Jacob, the streamer looks to find a foothold against Disney+ and Netflix in the streaming wars. Moreover, director Martin Scorsese recently signed a first-look deal with the service as well.
Idris Elba’s roles in action films like Thor and Hobbs & Shaw have endeared him to movie fans all over the world. The multi-talented performer also touts impressive dramatic and musical skills in the BBC Once series Luther and the controversial Cats. Up next, Elba will star as Bloodsport in James Gunn’s highly anticipated DC movie The Suicide Squad.
