In preparation of its second season on The CW, Batwoman has found its new series lead. God Friended Me star Javicia Leslie will be heading to the streets of Gotham.
According to Variety, Leslie will be playing a new character, Ryan Wilder. Before donning the cape, Wilder was a long time drug runner that dodges the Gotham police and has bad habits to hide the pain. She also possesses the skills of a dangerous fighter who is highly skilled, but undisciplined. Check out what Leslie had to say about boarding the series:
“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television. As a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.”
Leslie will be taking over the titular role after Ruby Rose announced her surprise departure in May. Leslie has some familiarity with Arrowverse executive producer Greg Berlanti as his production company, Berlanti Productions, produced God Friended Me for two seasons on CBS.
Batwoman will return in January 2021.
