When the trillion-dollar merger between Disney and 21st Century Fox finalized, fans had one question: when will Deadpool and the X-Men join the MCU? The answer? Seemingly sooner than you think. During an appearance on Live With Kelly & Ryan, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds confirmed the inevitable.
Take a look at the video below:
Reynolds tells hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest “Yeah. We’re working on it right now with the whole team. We’re over at Marvel Studios now, which is like the big leagues, all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy. So yeah, we’re working on it.”
All year, little bits and pieces of news were revealed regarding the upcoming sequel and its future with Marvel. Recently, Reynolds posted a picture of himself at the headquarters for Marvel Studios. However, this interview serves as the first time Reynolds has confirmed the film’s development.
The Deadpool franchise proved to be a box office powerhouse with its first two films in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The R-rated action-comedies broke the fourth wall and shattered expectations, garnering praise from critics and fans alike along the way. Additionally, the two films grossed over $1.5 billion combined. It is undoubtedly high on Marvel’s list of new properties since the merger took place. However, speculation regarding the logistics of any crossover have been raised. Specifically, Josh Brolin appears in the MCU as Thanos but in Deadpool 2 as Cable.
Meanwhile, Reynolds is certainly keeping himself busy. He appeared in blockbusters Detective Pikachu, Hobbs & Shaw, and 6 Underground in 2019 alone. Next year, he will star in Free Guy and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
