Zachary Levi’s ‘Shazam! 2’ Confirmed For 2022 Release

Earlier this year, DC films went in an entirely new direction. Shazam!, which starred a bunch of adolescents, was met with praise due to its heart and humor. As first reported by Borys Kit of THR, the film’s sequel has set a release date.
Shazam! 2 will premiere in theaters all over the world on April 1, 2022. This will set the sequel about 3 years after the events of the first film. Fans will also note that the sequel will come out just a few months following Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam film. Within the pages of DC Comics, Black Adam and Shazam are mortal enemies. It will be interesting to see if the Johnson-led film will tie-in in with Shazam! 2.

Starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel as Billy Batson/Shazam, the film follows the adventures of a teenager who has been gifted the powers of the gods. His life is turned upside down just as he settles in with a new foster family. Additionally, the film featured Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. The Shazam Family is also featured as Billy ends up sharing his powers with his new brothers and sisters.
The sequel will likely see the return of Zachary Levi and Asher Angel. Henry Gayden will return to pen the script. However, no word on who will direct the DC movie as of now.
