‘Hunger Games’ Star Tom Blyth Joins Adaptation Of Ernest Hemingway’s ‘A Farewell To Arms’
In November, moviegoers made their long-awaited return to Panem with Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. While Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler has received her fair share of praise for her work in the film, her co-star Tom Blyth has gathered quite the following online as well. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Blyth has locked down his next project.
Per the initial report, Blyth has signed on to star in an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s classic critically acclaimed novel A Farewell to Arms. Michael Winterbottom will direct the feature with the full support of The Hemingway Estate.
First published in 1929, A Farewell to Arms is a first-person account of an American, Frederic Henry, serving as a lieutenant in the ambulance corps of the Italian Army. The novel describes a love affair between the American expatriate and an English nurse, Catherine Barkley. The novel has been adapted a number of times: initially for the stage in 1930; as a film in 1932, and again in 1957; and as a three-part television miniseries in 1966. The film In Love and War, made in 1996, depicts Hemingway’s life in Italy as an ambulance driver in events prior to his writing of A Farewell to Arms.

In a statement accompanying the casting announcement, Winterbottom explains what makes Tom Blyth the perfect choice for the film.
“He argued that a novel could be like an iceberg: the reader only sees the tip above the water but feels the bulk and weight of what lies below the surface. I want our film to be true to Hemingway’s approach – immediate, raw, and natural – and I think in Tom Blyth we have found the perfect person to be Frederic Henry,” the director said.
In addition to this breakout role as Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Tom Blyth is also known for his roles in the hit TV series Billy the Kid and also touts an appearance in HBO’s The Gilded Age. Up next, Blyth will star alongside Chris Diamantopolous in the comedy Discussion Materials.
