Disney Eyeing Lupita Nyong’o For Tiana In Live-Action ‘Princess And The Frog’

There have been reports for some time now that a live-action The Princess and the Frog is in the works at Disney. Now according to insider Daniel Richtman, the studio is eyeing Lupita Nyong’o to star as Tiana.
The animated musical feature was released in 2009 and starred Anika Noni Rose and Bruno Campos as Tiana and Prince Naveen, respectively. Based on the classic fairytale, the film was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and produced by Peter Del Vecho.

A television spin-off titled Tiana was announced in December 2020 for Disney+. Stella Meghie is serving as writer and director of the project, with original cast members, including Anika Noni Rose returning. Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jennifer Lee revealed in January 2022 that Meghie had expressed interest in developing the live-action film adaptation.
Nyong’o is best known for her Academy Award-winning performance in 2013’s 12 Years a Slave and her roles in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther and Jordan Peele’s Us. She is set to star in the spin-off prequel film A Quiet Place: Day One in 2024.
