Will Ferrell In Talks To Portray John Madden In Amazon & MGM’s ‘Madden’

Will Ferrell has had one of the most prolific careers in Hollywood and is showing absolutely zero signs of slowing down. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Ferrell is said to be circling a starring role in Amazon/MGM’s upcoming film Madden.
If they strike the deal, Ferrell would portray legendary NFL coach and commentator John Madden in the feature. The film will be based on a Black List script by Cambron Clark and directed by David O. Russell. While Amazon and MGM will joint-produce the venture, it will reportedly release in theaters rather than on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service.

Madden will follow the life and the times of the iconic John Madden. He served as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978, and he led them to the franchise’s first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XI. Never having a losing season, Madden holds the highest winning percentage among NFL head coaches who coached at least 100 games. Madden is also the face of the Madden video game franchise which will soon receive its 24th installment later this year.
Will Ferrell recently starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in Apple TV’s musical Spirited and served as a producer for Searchlight’s The Menu. Up next, the legendary actor will star alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the highly anticipated film Barbie as well as lending his voice to the dog adventure film Strays.
