Robert Downey Jr. In Talks To Star In Remake Of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’

Thanks to him being the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr is one of the most recognizable faces on the planet. However, since his time as Iron Man came to a close, the actor has spent most of his time behind the camera producing projects. Now, as first reported by Deadline, RDJ is in talks to star in a remake of the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo.
Per the initial report, Robert Downey Jr. is eyeing the role played by James Stewart in the original film. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is penning the adapted screenplay with the Hitchcock Estate working in collaboration with Paramount Pictures and Downey Jr.’s Team Downey production banner to produce and distribute.

Vertigo is a 1958 American psychological thriller directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock. Based on the 1954 novel D’entre les morts (From Among the Dead) by Boileau-Narcejac, the film follows former police detective John “Scottie” Ferguson, who has retired because an incident in the line of duty has caused him to develop acrophobia and vertigo. In 1989, it was one of the first 25 films selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Robert Downey Jr. was listed by Forbes as Hollywood’s highest-paid actor from 2013-2015. Since sacrificing himself and saving the universe as Iron Man in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. has starred in films like Dolittle and produced TV shows like Sweet Tooth. Up next, the cinematic icon will star alongside Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, and others in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
