‘Blue Beetle’ Promo Art Reveals New Look At Suit

As the first Latin-led DC superhero film, Blue Beetle is already an exciting concept on paper. However, there is nothing quite like getting a sneak peek at the film, which features Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes. Courtesy of the Blue Beetle Updates Twitter account, promotional art featuring the titular superhero has surfaced online.

Although set photos gave fans their first look at Blue Beetle’s comic-accurate get-up, the latest leak provides a slightly more official image from the highly-anticipated film. The promo piece is reminiscent of the neon-lit Palmera city, a wholly original location created for the upcoming DC project. There is no indication that the image will be released officially anytime soon, but expect marketing to ramp up for the film approaching the Fall.

Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hammer, Blue Beetle AKA Jaime Reyes first appeared in 2006’s Infinite Crisis #3. After bonding with an alien scarab, Jaime finds he can create a suit of extraterrestrial armor that allows him to fight crime. The suit grants him flight, enhanced strength, energy shields, and the ability to create weapons from nothing. Additionally, Reyes is the third character to assume the mantle of the Blue Beetle.

Charm City director Angel Manuel Soto directs his first superhero film with Blue Beetle, based on a script written by Miss Bala scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. In addition to Maridueña, the ensemble cast includes George Lopez, Harvey Guillén, Belissa Escobedo, and Bruna Marquezine. For the villains, Susan Sarandon plays Victoria Kord, while Raoul Max Trujillo plays Carapax the Indestructible Man.

Blue Beetle is set to hit theaters on August 18, 2023.
