Illustrious Latinx Talent Including George Lopez Joins Cast Of ‘Blue Beetle’

DC Films and Warner Bros. haven’t wasted a single moment fleshing out the cast of their upcoming Blue Beetle adaptation. Promising stars Xolo Maridueña and Bruna Marquezine were cast early, but every young gun needs a grizzled, guiding hand to help deliver the straight shot. According to a report from The Wrap, the newcomers will be joined by a wicked supporting cast that includes the likes of George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, and Damián Alcázar.
These days, no superhero flick is without its high-profile lineup of supporting cast members. However, DC and Warner Bros understand how to nail the pre-planning in its entirety: if you’re going to make the brand’s first Latinx-led property, specifically, Mexican-led, you damn well make sure your casting is on point.

The four additions to Blue Beetle‘s cast have combined for over a century of screen time in Hollywood. They’ve been the star of their own show (Lopez in George Lopez), delivered commanding performances in Oscar-nominated films (Barraza in Babel), more than held their own against 80’s action heroes (Carrillo in Predator), and continue to inspire us with their grit in each new appearance (Alcázar in Narcos and Acapulco).
In regard to their roles in the upcoming film, the four will fill out the Reyes family alongside Maridueña’s Jamie Reyes, the crime-fighting El Paso teen at the center of DC’s latest epic. Lopez and Barraza will play Uncle Rudy and Nana, while Carillo and Alcázar will take on the roles of Rocio and Alberto, respectively.
Blue Beetle will hit theaters on August 18, 2023.
