The movie, titled Wildcat, will reportedly take a look at the life of Flannery O’Connor, an American novelist, short story writer, and essayist. Maya Hawke will portray the 1972 U.S. National Book Award winner in a film that will follow O’Conner as she struggles to publish her first novel. In a statement, Ethan Hawke expresses his excitement for Maya to step into this role.
“Maya has been working hard for years to put this project together, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to introduce a new generation of filmgoers to the genius of Flannery O’Connor,” says Ethan Hawke. “Her work explores themes important to all artists — the intersection of creativity and faith, the blurred relationship between imagination and reality.”
Best known for her performance as Robin Buckley in Netflix’s Stranger Things, Maya Hawke expanded her relationship with the streaming service with a memorable role alongside Camila Mendes in Do Revenge. Up next, Maya Hawke will appear in the star-studded cast of Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. The actress/singer will also lend her voice talents to Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated series.
