A new feature film from a galaxy far, far away has found its director. According to Deadline, Damon Lindelof’s secret Star Wars film for Lucasfilm has tapped Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to direct.
The script is reportedly still being written, so it will be some time before it goes into production. Lindelof is co-writing the film, but it is not yet known who his co-writer will be. According to Deadline’s sources, Lucasfilm and Lindelof wanted a director on board early so that their vision for the film could be included in the script.
It is not known what the film’s plot will be as the studio is keeping details under wraps. The film is one of several features Lucasfilm has in development, while the studio has focused on its television projects since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. As of now, other films in development include Taika Watiti’s Star Wars film, Kevin Feige’s movie, and Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
Obaid-Chinoy served as director for several episodes of Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel. Additionally, she helmed the Oscar-winning documentary shorts Saving Face and A Girl in the River, The Price of Forgiveness.
