Netflix Reportedly Interested In Live-Action ‘Hunter x Hunter’ Series

Netflix may be looking to develop a new live-action adaptation of yet another iconic anime series. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the streamer is interested in a live-action adaptation of Hunter x Hunter.
Written by Yoshihiro Togashi, Hunter x Hunter was first published in 1998 by Shueisha. The story follows Gon Freecss on a journey to find his father, who left him at a young age. After discovering his father was a Hunter, a licensed professional who specializes in incredible adventures, Gon sets out to become one himself in hopes it will bring him closer to his father. On the way, he meets a number of other Hunters, including his best friend, Killua Zoldyck.

The original manga has been adapted into two different anime series, with the most recent airing from 2011 to 2014. In addition, it has been adapted into books, video games, and musicals, but this would be the first live-action television series based on the property.
Netflix has a history of adapting iconic anime and manga into live-action, to somewhat mixed results. Therefore, it is not surprising to hear they are interested in adapting the series, given its popularity. However, it should be noted as of now, there is no official word on the streamer adapting the series.
