Harriet Sansom Harris To Play Main Villain In ‘Werewolf By Night’

New details about the main villain of Marvel Studios Werewolf by Night Halloween Special have seemingly been revealed. According to Daniel Richtman, actress Harriet Sansom Harris is set to play an evil cult leader opposite Gael García Bernal’s titular protagonist.

Harris will be portraying a cult leader from the house of Bloodstone in the special named Verrusa. Now while Verrusa is not a character that appears in the comics, the name Bloodstone is quite familiar to comic fans. Elsa Bloodstone and Ulysses Bloodstone are notable monster hunters in Marvel Comics, and the former is rumored to be appearing in the special played by Laura Donnelly.

Harris has appeared in a number of television and film roles and is well known for her characters Bebe Glazer on Frasier and Felicia Tilman on Desperate Housewives. Additionally, she has appeared in films such as Addams Family Values, Nurse Betty, and Phantom Thread. Most recently, she appeared in the show Atlantic Crossing and the movie Licorice Pizza.

Two different characters have used the name Werewolf by Night in the comics, including Jack Russell and Jake Gomez. Russell was created by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, and Mike Ploog. He first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 in 1972. The character descends from a line of werewolves that were created by Dracula himself, who cursed the family. Meanwhile, Gomez debuted in 2020’sWerewolf by Night #1 by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff, and Scot Eaton. Gomez is a member of the Hopi Native American tribe whose family was cursed with lycanthropy.
