BioShock is a 2007 first-person shooter game developed by 2K Boston and published by 2K Games. Set in 1960, the game follows Jack who discovers the underwater city of Rapture. Built by businessman Andrew Ryan to be an isolated utopia, the discovery of ADAM, a genetic material that grants superhuman powers, initiated the city’s turbulent decline. Jack attempts to escape, fighting various enemies along the way. Jack can defeat foes in several ways by using weapons, utilizing plasmids that give unique powers, and turning Rapture’s defenses against them. BioShock was followed by two sequels, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite, released in 2010 and 2013, respectively.
Up next for Francis Lawerence is a return to the Hunger Games franchise with the upcoming prequel film Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Additionally, the new BioShock film will continue the director’s relationship with Netflix following the upcoming Jason Momoa-starring fantasy film Slumberland.
