Matthew McConaughey To Star In Sports Drama ‘Dallas Sting’ For Skydance

Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey is a well-known commodity in Hollywood. The actor’s long list of films has solidified his place in cinematic history and he is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, McConaughey has line dup his next starring role.
Per the initial report, McConaughey will star in a new feature titled Dallas Sting, which is based on a true story. Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skoglund will helm the film with a script by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch (GLOW). Skydance and Berlanti Schechter Productions will develop the feature with Apple Studios looking to cash in for distribution rights.

Dallas Sting is based on the story of a ragtag group of Texas teens who were invited to play in China’s first world championship they were holding for women’s soccer in 1984. Following President Reagan’s efforts to open relations with China, a team of young soccer players made their way to China as the ultimate underdogs and ended up beating some of the best teams from all over the world. McConaughey will portray Bill Kinder, the team’s coach with no prior experience coaching soccer. The film will reportedly be inspirational and depict the young women’s drive and passion for the sport.
The last time McConaughey starred in a film with “Dallas” in its title, Dallas Buyers Club, he earned the Academy Award for Best Actor. Since then, the actor has appeared in various films including, most recently, Sing 2. Additionally, the actor touts various awards for his memorable turns in shows like True Detective and hit films like Interstellar.
